Articulation and Expressive Language

At Tip of the tongue, we provide evaluations and therapy for all manner of articulation and phonological disorders and delays, as well as grammar and other aspects of expressive language. Whether the concern is minor or significant, even if it is long-standing, if it is detrimental to the individual, we can help.
Too often, clients come to us with a familiar story. After years of school therapy, they were released from the therapist's caseload with articulation errors and told that they were speaking as well as they ever would. In a lot of cases, their school therapists just gave up on them when the tried-and-true therapy practices did not work. Although these therapists work hard and to the best of their ability, they are required to be "Jacks of all trades" and address many speech and language disorders. As such, they may be familiar with a number of disorders but never have the opportunity to develop specialties.
At Tip of the Tongue, our SLP has chosen to specialize in problems of articulation, motor speech, and expressive language, including those of foreign speakers of English, allowing her to take a greater number of trainings in these areas. Our ability to utilize specialized learning gleaned from training and work with childhood apraxia of speech and tongue thrust helps us succeed in remediating persistent speech disorders when years of therapy have not been effective. At Tip of the Tongue, we have the resources and knowledge about how to address persistent problems with /r/, /s/, and the other more difficult speech sounds. We also have experience in using a Phonological Cycles Approach for unintelligible speakers or speakers with numerous articulation errors.
In cases where clients would benefit from additional visual feedback to correct their speech, we offer the CompleteSpeech Palatometer. Please see our page on the Palatometer for more information.
Good articulation on its own will make a speaker intelligible; however, it is not always enough to make someone a good speaker. Expressive language is an important component in being a competent speaker of English. Grammar and sentence structure, word or sentence stress, vocal volume, and word choice are all important aspects of spoken language. At Tip of the Tongue, we address all aspects of expressive language. Speaking correctly is exceedingly important to us! Whether it is a matter of not having internalized correct expressive language as a child or being a new speaker of English, we have the materials and the know-how to make positive changes.
Whether you are looking for an evaluation or speech therapy (also known as speech-language therapy) for a communication disorder, Tip of the Tongue can provide what you need.
