At Tip of the Tongue, the owner and director, Rhonda J. Banford, M.A.T., CCC-SLP will personally see to your therapy needs. After earning a Masters of Arts in Teaching degree from Tulane University in 1981, Rhonda became a certified speech-language pathologist through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and was licensed in Missouri through the Board of Healing Arts. She holds a lifetime teaching certificate in the state of MO and is also certified as an Early Childhood Special Educator. Having recently retired from practice other than foreign accent modification, Rhonda is no longer actively certified and licensed, however her knowledge base and teaching skills have not changed. Rhonda left both agencies in good standing.
Rhonda was an experienced provider of therapy for childhood apraxia of speech and delays in phonology. Early in her career, Rhonda taught reading as a teacher for children with severe language disorders using the DuBard Association Method. She also did evaluations and speech therapy for Head Start and other private agencies. From 2001-2007, Rhonda worked for the Rockwood School District, first in the capacity of a speech-language therapist, then as a diagnostician, and finally as a teacher of Early Childhood Special Education. Her capacity as teacher allowed her to create and implement a unique classroom for preschool children with significant speech and expressive language delays in order to address their communication and reading-readiness skills.
Over the years, Rhonda has continued her education with scores of professional trainings, including the Kaufman Speech Praxis Method, PROMPT, Compton P-ESL, and orofacial myofunctional therapy. In recent years, she has concentrated on workshops pertaining to persistent articulation errors, expressive language concerns, and childhood apraxia of speech. Rhonda continues to learn independently to further her knowledge of speech and language production and foreign accent modification.
In her spare time, Rhonda enjoys walking her dogs, playing tennis, reading, taking art classes, volunteering, and spending time with her husband, David, and daughters, Alyssa and Caitlin. No website of Rhonda's would be complete without a picture of her furry family members, Vixen and Whitney.
